Formtorch

A form backend I designed, built and still run. Website owners point their forms at Formtorch, and it receives each submission, filters out spam and sends it where it needs to go.

Project overview

Formtorch is BitForward's own software product. It started as an internal tool for client websites and grew into a paid service for developers, agencies and business owners. BitForward designs, builds and runs all of it, from the code and hosting to billing and support.

Start Your Project

Every website form needs somewhere to send its messages

A contact form looks simple, but the page only collects the message. Something still has to receive it, check it for spam, store it and tell the right person. A static site has no server to do that, so the usual choices are building a backend for every project or paying for a service.

Formtorch does that work with one change: point the form at a Formtorch address. There's no code library to install and no server to run. I kept the design plain and the setup short, so developers can add it to a site in minutes and owners can read their submissions in a simple dashboard.

  1. The Problem

People who build websites want forms they don't have to think about, and the people who own those sites want every real enquiry to reach them. Before choosing a form service, they want to know:

    1. Will every submission arrive?
    2. Will it stop spam without blocking real customers?
    3. How long will it take to set up?
    4. Can it send submissions to the tools I already use?

A lost enquiry can mean a lost job, often without anyone knowing. So the service has to be dependable first and simple second.

  2. The Solution

I built Formtorch as a hosted service with one job: getting every form submission to the right place.

    • A form endpoint that works with HTML, React, Next.js, Astro, Webflow and Framer.
    • Real-time spam scoring, honeypot fields, rate limits and Cloudflare Turnstile to keep junk out.
    • Every submission saved to durable storage before the form reports success.
    • Instant email notifications, with several recipients per form on paid plans.
    • Signed webhooks with automatic retries, plus Zapier, Make and Google Sheets connections.
    • A searchable dashboard with CSV export and delivery history.
    • Uploaded files scanned for malware before anyone can download them.
  3. Results & Outcomes

Formtorch is live and in daily use, and I keep improving it.

    • Customers on paid plans, beside a free plan anyone can start on.
    • Regular updates, including file uploads, a REST API and new integrations.
    • A public status page, so anyone can check that it's running.
    • Proof that I can build software and keep it running for the long term.
